Why Did I Get Married Too? is a 2010 American comedy-drama film produced by Lionsgate and Very Perry Films and stars Janet Jackson, Tyler Perry, and Tasha Smith.
It is the sequel to Why Did I Get Married? (2007).
Plot
Gathered together in the Bahamas for their annual one-week reunion, four close couples eagerly reconnect, sharing news about their lives and relationships. But their intimate week in paradise is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Sheila’s (Jill Scott) ex-husband, Mike (Richard T. Jones), who is suddenly being nice to everyone which raises suspicion amongst the others.
Sheila’s new husband Troy (Lamman Rucker) is having trouble finding a job since they moved from Colorado to Atlanta. Dianne (Sharon Leal) is suddenly very happy and full of energy. This prompts Terry (Tyler Perry) to suspect that she’s cheating.
Angela (Tasha Smith) fears that Marcus can’t be faithful since he has a high-paying job as a sportscaster and has a lot of female fans. While on their trip, they met a friendly elderly couple (Louis Gossett Jr. and Cicely Tyson) who share a story about their romance and marriage at their “Why Did I Get Married?” ceremony. At the ceremony, Patricia (Janet Jackson) announces that she and Gavin (Malik Yoba) are divorcing. Gavin did not know Patricia was going to pick that moment to break the news to their friends and walks away from her. After the trip, Gavin and his lawyer meet with Patricia and her lawyer which is Dianne. Gavin and Patricia agree to split everything down the middle but Patricia does not include her personal account, which holds the money she made from her book, in the settlement agreement. Patricia refuses to give him money from this account so he tells Dianne to tell Patricia to get ready for “a fight”.
Meanwhile, Angela’s neighbor warns her about some strange noises coming from their house which causes Angela to believe Marcus has had some women in their home. When Dianne comes home from work with a bouquet of flowers, Terry finds a note holder in it and he also catches her slip out a man’s name which is “Phil”.
Sheila secretly meets with Mike and asks him to help Troy get a job and he complies. Once Troy gets the job, Sheila thinks Mike is only doing this to win her back but Mike pleads for her help. He grabs her arm and Sheila notices that he is shaking and something must be wrong with him. Elsewhere, Gavin (who is intoxicated) burns their deceased son, Noah’s, photo album, after getting physically abusive with Patricia.
Patricia later catches Gavin, Marcus and Terry trying to move his things out and she literally destroys the house with Gavin’s golf clubs which later leads her into a dark depression. Angela shows up at Marcus’ job on national television and confronts him about the “noises”. Marcus has no clue what she’s talking about and he even gives up his cell phone to her. Troy soon discovers that he got his new job because of Mike and he goes to his condo and finds Sheila there.
He runs over to Mike and attacks him. Sheila reveals that he has cancer and she’s only there to nurse him back to health. Troy later apologizes for physically attacking Mike and the two tenuously agree to be cordial.
Terry notices Dianne preparing “work clothes” with sexy lingerie and he forces her to reveal who she’s been cheating with. Dianne admits that they haven’t had sex but she does enjoy spending time with him. Terry refuses to have any communication with her afterward. Meanwhile, Angela discovers the truth about the noises. It was actually the gardener and the maid having sex in their bedroom. Angela and Marcus soon reconcile but their arguing continues, when she finds Marcus had another phone.
Elsewhere, Patricia embarrasses Gavin at his job by having a gay man jump out of a cake and she tells him “You wanna act like a bitch?, here’s your man!”. Gavin flees from the job and Patricia. Patricia follows him to his car where she yells at him. However, as Gavin is trying to get away, he is suddenly involved in a car crash with a speeding truck that completely destroys the car.
Patricia stands frozen with horror, shock and regret. All of the friends are reunited at the hospital waiting to hear from doctors on Gavin’s condition. A nervously wrecked Patricia questions her actions, realizing it all was a mistake and asks herself what were they fighting for because they were supposed to love each other.
She forces all of the couples to work their differences out and love each other. Unfortunately, a doctor comes out of the operating room and announces that Gavin has died. Sometime later, they all give him a memorial service in the Bahamas.
A year later, Patricia is interrupted by a coworker telling her a philanthropist in one of her classes wants to meet her. She declines meeting him, believing she will start another relationship too early. The co-worker suggests that she talks to him regardless because they need the money. Patricia then gives in. The man (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a cameo) comes to talk to her.
He tells her that her class and books about marriage got him along during a nasty divorce. He asks her to join him for coffee. She smiles as the film ends.
