The Runaways is a 2010 musical biographical drama film based on the 1970 all female rock group the same name.

The film is written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, with Joan Jett as one of the film’s executive producers, and stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, Cherie Currie Dakota Fanning as Stella Maeve as Sandy West, Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford , and Michael Shannon as Kim Fowley.

Alia Shawkat plays the bassist for the band, a fictional character named Joseph, created as a result of legal problems that hinder the representation of bassist Jackie Fox

Synopsis
Based on the memoirs of Cherie Currie Neon Angel: Memoirs of a fugitive, the film follows two friends, Jett and Currie, as they spend a rebellious street children to Los Angeles rock stars of the legendary group that paved the way for future generations of boy bands.

Fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock entrepreneur Kim Fowley, who turns the Group in a scandalous success and a family of misfits. With his dour image, chicken and raw talent, the group earned a name for himself and do his two leads: Joan is the heart of pure rock and roll band, “while Cherie, with his Bowie – Bardot see is the sex kitten.

The film had its world premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival on January 24 and will open in limited release in the United States March 19, 2010, followed by a press of the nation on 9 April 2010, which is also age 20 Stewart.
