Rudo y Cursi (English: Rude and Corny) is a Mexican film starring Diego Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal and Guillermo Francella.
It is directed by Carlos Cuarón (Alfonso Cuaron’s brother) and produced by Cha Cha Cha Producciones (production company created by Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu).
The movie is a drama/comedy about two brothers from a rural lower class Mexican family with roots in a little “banana town” on the coast of Mexico, and fighting over who performs better in professional soccer.
It is also a parody of contemporary Mexico’s “narco-society” perceptions of life and values.
Despite the fact that the charolastras are back in the game, Diego, Gael, and Director Carlos insist this has nothing to do with Y tu mamá también history.
It was released in December 2008 in Mexico, and will have its U.S. premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival in April 2009.
This is Carlos Cuarón’s first full-length movie — before Rudo y Cursi, Carlos only directed short films.
